Final Project What is a PLN?

This is for all those future EDM 310 students who get half way through the entire semester and still don't have a clue what a PLN is. An easy concept once you get used to it, in fact you'll question how you ever thought you could be an educator without this knowledge. But in the beginning, many of us struggled with wrapping our heads around this concept, so I hope this makes it a little easier.

Special Metaphor Assignment (Blog Post 14)

1. I believe that I missed the metaphor, because I really was not paying attention. I think that I read into it to much. I was so concentrated on doing the assignment and doing it well that I did not even catch the humor in the post. I also believe that the post was actually kind of difficult in getting the metaphor revealed. After reading up on Tom Johnson I should have caught on right away, but like I said I was probably concentrating to hard on getting the project done.
2. The best metaphor that I come across is the one that "football is life". In being a coach I am surrounded by sports and this metaphor is the one that sticks out to me. In so many ways this is true. Football teaches you life skills the biggest one being whgen you get knocked down you have to keep getting up. Now football is not actually life, but the metaphor is used by so many coaches, because it can teach you so many skills that you will need in life.
3. To help our student learn about metaphors, first thing is we have to teach them what a exactly what is a metaphor. Then we have to show them the proper way to use metaphors. Also we have to show them when is a good time a metaphor is used and what it is used for. If we do this I believe that the students will catch on and begin to use metaphors.
4. I believe we use metaphors to open our eyes to certain things. I think that we need humor in a way to make life enjoyable. And using metaphors does bring out the humor in our lives. This is because metaphors can have a funny swing to them and usually are humorous.

PLN Final Report

My PLN started out with a few coaches that I was following on Twitter. I also had a few websites that I kept in contact with that I mentioned in my first report. These particular things were very helpful in my continuing to learn the coaching progress. I have actually gotten my first coaching job this year. I will be coaching at McGill Toolen High School in the fall. This helps my PLN in that now while I am finishing up school I will get to learn under other coaches. I also will get the experience I need that will help me when I do get a teaching job. Not only will I get the experience, but I also will get to meet new coaches. And I have come to find out that in this business it is more of who you know than what you know. So meeting new coaches around the area can really help me out.

C4T 4

The first teacher I was assigned was Jenny Luca. Her page was called Lucacept-Intercepting the Web. Her recent post was a few videos on the new volkswagon commercials.
I left her a comment saying that these commercials were hilarious and that she has a great sense of humor.
The second teacher I was assigned was Jenny Luca. Her page was called Lucacept-Intercepting the Web. Her recent post was on the royal wedding. She had two different videos of the wedding on her blog.
I left her a comment saying that I did not get to see the wedding but heard it was fascinating. And that it was a really good idea to put it on her blog, because this is something that everyone should know about.

C4K 7

I was assigned to Mr. McClung's World, more specifically Prosser's Gabriel. This was under the section band of the week. Prosser's Gabriel is a song that is sung by the muscician Tim Barry. It tells the story of a planned slave revolt in Virginia. He used the song to set up that day's learning.
I left a comment that this was a neat way to get the kids interested in the topic that would be taught that day. I also said that it is great that the kids are expanding their minds and getting a little culture.
C4K 8

I was assigned Tori from Ms. Thompson's 6/7th grade class. Her post was about facial masks that her and her friend created. They made them out of dirt and water and spread them over their face. They waited for it to dry and peeled it off. Tori said that thier faces were smoothed.
I left a comment saying that this was very creative and even though I did not try it I bet it actually worked.
C4K 9
I was assigned to comment on Mrs. Yollis's Class Blog. I left her a comment in the section of Family Blogging Month. My comment said that I was very pleased with her blog. And I thought Family Blogging Month was a great idea because it got everyone involved.
Mrs. Yollis's Class Blog was a great one to visit. She had links everywhere that you could click and go to something she thought was interesting or educational. The blog listed and had links to the kids blogs. As I mentioned she had a month said aside for family blogging which anyone could get involved in. Overall it was one of the best blogs I visited and help me learn a lot of things.
C4K 10

I was assigned Adia's Blog. She is one of Mrs. Yollis's third grade students. Her blog post was about a girl scout meeting. In this meeting Adia's grandma told them about her homeland Japan. She had a lot of interesting facts about Japan and also learned how to make Sushi.
I left her a comment saying that this was very cool that she got to learn about Japan and learn to make Sushi. She had a lot of pictures on her blog from the meeting and I told her that this was a good thing to have. And keep up the good work.

ALEX

The Alabama Department Of Education came up with an educational tool in the name of ALEX. ALEX stands for Alabama Learning Exchange. It was created for the teachers and educators to be able to communicate and share their ideas. Anyone is allowed to get on the website and fool around looking at all the different things it offers. There is available lesson plans on the site, which is helpful for ideas for your students. Links to other helpful websites can also be found and are very helpful. The website is not confusing when on the homepage you can click on whatever you would like to look at.
ALEX is a very helpful website. I first found out about ALEX in my education class at West Alabama. The teacher provided us with this site and told us how to navigate it. Like I said it is very easy to navigate. And very informative to teachers, students, and even parents.

Final Project Progress Report

I will be working with Paige Bryant on the final project and we will be focusing on the education of the future. You may be thinking "Hey, that's pretty generic", but no worries, we plan on putting our own little spin on it. The most exciting part of the project is that it will closely resemble Dr. Miller multimedia project. I look forward to putting his format into action with my ideas.

Blog Post 12

The blog post that I would set up would be one that is towards the end of the semester. The instructions are as follows: write one or more paragraphs about what you have learned in this class, include how tis class will help you in the future.
made up book cover for a made up book called EDM 310 for Dummies

What I have learned in this class is first how to use a blog. I did not know that all of this technology was available. Before this class I was almost computer illiterate. This class has taught me how to find my way around a computer. Also I have learned how to communicate through blogging with people all around. Webcams and skype can allow me to see and talk to people around the world. This class is a great class and can help to introduce and educate people of so many things that are available. Once I become a teacher I will use tis technology learned to educate my class. and teach them to be ready for the future which will eventually be all technology.

Blog Post 11

First Graders in Ms. Cassidy's Class
This was a video of Ms. Cassidy's first grade class. Ms, Cassidy incorporates technology in her class very well. She let the kids write on blogs. Of course it was first grade material, but the fact that she is getting kids this young involved in technology is great. She also lets the kids have fun with technology by letting them play with a Nintendo DS.
The technique that I would use would have to be the blogs. I would have my kids have a blog and write about physical education topics and health. Also I would encourage them to find other things on the internet that they could incorporate in their blogs and use it. They could learn a whole lot more by surfing the internet than I could teach them.
The only problem I see in teaching technology is the schools providing access for it to be used. Some school systems do not see the advantage of having technology. And they will not pay for it if they do not see any progress made with it. Meaning it is and expensive means for students to learn that the school system does not see necessary.
But on the other hand there is a lot of benefits from this. For instance like I said the kids could learn a lot more by using technology. The kids could be more advanced in technology and better ready for the future. Also students could be able to pass the things they learned on to new people.

Blog Post 10

An Open Letter to Educators
Both Morgan Bayda and Dan Brown talked about how college is so expensive. And these days there is sometimes a waste of money, because the students pay and leave the class without learning anything. This is a recurring event nowadays and should be observed a lot more. I have experienced this a couple times. I felt like in one class we did not do enough work and I felt like I did not learn anything. And in the other we did to much work and I was always in a hurry to get the work done that I did not even pay attention to what I was doing. Mr. Brown's video also showed that students are paying for something that they can get for free. This is do to the lack of technological upgrades by institutions.
Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home
This post was interesting to read, because it said that if students take pencils home then there test scores will be lower. This was figured out by some tests. And the whole time during the post the teacher is focusing on the problem rather then the solution. I believe this is true of teachers that they worry to much about the problem and never try to fix the problem or come up with a solution.

Creating Lifelong Learners
This post was titled Reading Remedies. It was of a iPhone application that Mr. Needleman had created. There was a video attached to this pot that described the app. It also showed the different things that the app could do. The app was created for beginning readers to help them along as they learn to read. I left a comment saying that I liked the idea and that it could help with discovering reading difficulties earlier and easier.
Creating Lifelong Learners
This post was on the subject of learning styles. The argument was that there are no learning styles. A student might prefer to use visual over auditory, but that does not mean that he or she cannot learn without visuals. There was also a video made that went into depth of the subject. I left a comment saying that this was interesting because I always viewed as seeing something would better help me learn it, but concentrating I could learn something just as easy by hearing it.

Pt. England School
I was assigned Kevin' blog. He was just learning how to put pictures on his blog. He added a picture of an iguana. I left him a comment saying that this is a good job and it is good he is learning how to enhance his blog.
Pt. England School
I was assigned Stephanie. Her post was what she liked about the holidays, and her favorite thing was the rocking chairs. The chairs started rocking as soon as the movie came on. I left her a comment saying that I was glad she got to visit the museum and I look forward to reading more of her blog.
Drumming at MIS
This post was a video of Dallas playing the drums. Each kid at the Melville Intermediate School has an opportunity to learn an instrument. Dallas picked the drums and played what he had learned. I left him a comment saying it is good that he gets to learn an instrument and to keep up the good work.

What I have Learned This Year
Mr. McClung wrote this essay after his first ever year of being a teacher. In this post he says that he learned a lot from everyone around him. He posted several things that he learned in certain categories. The first being how to read the crowd. He says that teachers worry more about their superiors and teaching the curriculum rather than recognizing the most important part of teaching which is student comprehension. The next is be flexible. Mr. McClung learned that the lesson that you plan and the one that you teach is always different. He also learned that the best way to resolve an issue is to communicate. During the year, Mr. McClung learned that you have to be reasonable. Set high expectations but if the kids do not live up to them then do not get disappointed. He states to not be afraid of technology it is a good thing and we should use it. Also listen to your students, the student knows the teachers cares when he hears what he says. And lastly Mr. McClung learned to never stop learning.
I learned a lot from this being a future teacher. I know what to expect now, and maybe adjust to what he says instead of having to learn from the first year as he did.

Richard Miller: This is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2
Richard Miller is an English teacher at the University of Rutgers. When he was younger he loved reading books. This was easy for him, because his house was full of books. This got him started out and interested him in English. The lecture that he gives primarily focuses on technology that is available today. And with all these new technologies the teachers today need to learn them, and be able to teach them to their students effectively. This is a necessity, because of the rapidly changing of the technology.
I myself have to be prepared to write with multimedia. And as of right now I am getting better with using technology and getting interested in using it. EDM 310 as maybe more curious of technology and wanting to know more. The more this class goes along the more I am learning and enjoying learning. And I need to be able to use this technology so I can teach it to my students.
I believe that my students will be able to do this. I believe this because I have learned a lot in such a short time and will continue to learn and teach it to them. I think that students today need to know at least somewhat of how to use the new technology. This will help them be better fit for the future and be better well rounded students.
The Chipper Series
Chipper is a student that thinks that she can do her work late and still turn it in. Chipper hates to learn and basically she learns just enough to get by. You can tell that Chipper retains nothing and goes nowhere. This video was made so that we can see that life is a continuous learning experience, and that we learn something new everyday.
EDM 310 for Dummies
This video is just what is says. It is basically a short how to for this class. The video explains how this class can be overwhelming st times. But on the upside there is a lot of good that comes from the class. Also that the class will help you in your future classroom. This is because that you learn a lot that you can pass on to your students.
Learn to Change, Change to Learn
This video is of a bunch of teachers talking about the idea of the technology in our kids today. Kids today have a lot more available to them than the kids of yesterday. But the teachers say in the video that even though that there is more technology today school is still taught the same way. One of the biggest arguments is that we need a community learning system. The schools try to take the community learning out of the picture, instead of embracing it. Because this kind of learning system the kids will ultimately learn more
The Secret Powers of Time by Philip Zambardo
This video focuses on the essence of life, which is time. For some reason you always see people in a rush. Everybody is always hurrying to wherever they have to go. This video serves the purpose of people need to slow down and save time. This is because time is the only thing that you can never get back. Also the video shows how people always worry about the past. And we should not do this whats gone is gone so move on.
Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us By Dan Pink
One of the saying that stood out to me in this video is when he said that people will work for free if they love what they do. I believe that this is so true. This was a good statement, because you have to love what you do in life. If you wake up every morning dreading going to work and you do not like what you do then you will not be happy. But on the flip side of that, if you love your job then you will be happy. And if your happy your going to want to do more and go the extra mile to help out.

Short Movie Project 11

Progress On PLN

My PLN as of right now is just starting. I am wanting to become a football coach when graduated so that is what my PLN is associated with. There is actually more stuff on the internet for football coaches than I had imagined. There is a website I found that is really helpful in the early stages. It is http://www.footballandcoaching.com/ . This website has books that you can buy, coaching positions that are available, and lists some other helpful websites. So far I have found one blog that is really helpful. This blog is all about coaching football and is set up to help football coaches. This blog is http://wwwfootballtoolscom.blogspot.com/ . I am still trying to find some other blogs right now. There are a lot of football coaches on twitter. I am following mostly college coaches, because these I have figured out have the most advice. Some of them include:  @CoachSwinney"  @LSUCoachMiles @MarkRicht . This is just a start to my PLN and it will continue to grow as I find more information on coaching football.

Blog Post 7

This video is on Randy Pausch's Last Lecture. This particular speech is on achieving your childhood dreams. He starts off by saying that he only has about 2 to 4 months of good health left. This was because he has tumors in his liver. This was astonishing, because he did not look bad at all and he seemed fine. He goes on to say that he will only talk about today on how to achieve childhood dreams, enable the dreams of others, and the lessons learned. These lesson are how you can achieve your childhood dream and enable the dreams of others.
The next part Mr. Pausch explains his childhood dreams and what they were. Like any other kid his dream was to play in the NFL. And just about like any other kid this dream did not come true. But he did say that he learned more from this dream than any other dream he did accomplish. He explained what he did get from football and how he feels most comfortable on a football field. Some of the things he did get from football was it is all about hard work and fundamentals. He states that football teaches you about the game of life. And he gives a quote saying that "experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted". This he says is how football helped him even though he did not achieve his dream of playing in the NFL.
Mr. Pausch goes on in his lecture and talks about how to enable childhood dreams of others. He says that he is glad that he became a professor. This is because that he thinks this is a great way to enable the dreams of others. He does this project that he explains and he gives his student groups some guidelines and they came back with their project notes. And this astonished the professor Mr. Pausch and he did not know what to tell them. So he got some advice and that was to tell them that they can do better. He says that this was great advice, because setting the bar to low is harmful to young students and they may not reach their potential. He goes on to say that this is the best way to enable a kids dream is to always say that this was good but I think you can do better.
The final thing is that Mr. Pausch teaches the ETC which he explains that it is a very different kind of masters degree. It is full of projects. Mr. Pausch explains that it is all hands on and it is not book guided. He goes on to say that he hates textbooks and the best way to teach is hands on. The biggest success of the ETC was learning how to work in groups and focusing on people. Also Mr. Pausch took the ETC global: Australia, Singapore, and Korea. Another thing is that ETC has written agreements from companies that will hire their students. Mr. Pausch is a great professor and is always embracing new things. He knows how to enable students to think and to give them fun ways to learn.

The first post I was assigned to was a post called "Why You Should Wait to Teach Projectile Motion, Part 1 The Problem". This post is located on John Burke's Quantum Progress Blog:This post explained why teachers when teaching Physics should wait to teach projectile motion. It is part 1 of 3 and this explains the problems. One of the problems is units and boring crap. Mr. Burke states that physics is a lot of figuring and equations and this is where most people get caught up in and can never get past.
I left him a comment saying that I agree with him, because I had to take physics and I was so caught up in the figuring that I could not get the real aspect of physics. And I felt like I was always playing catch up.
The next post that I was assigned was on the same blog, and it is titled "Lessons on Scale". There was a video on this post asking the question how far away is the moon from the earth. It used a basketball as the earth and a tennis ball as the moon. Eventually it showed to scale how far the moon was away from the earth. The object is to use visual things to show the relationship. And Mr. Burke explains that this was a good teaching tool and he has to do more of these to get his kids thinking.
I left a comment saying that I really liked the video and that it was a great teaching tool. And as a future teacher myself I have to use some of these techniques also to get my students thinking.http://quantumprogress.wordpress.com/

My first comment was on Alexis C's blog. Her post was titled All About Geometry. She wrote about angles and explained the three types of angles: right, obtuse, and acute. I left her a comment saying that I was glad she was interested in Geometry and that she was on the right track with the angles.

My second assignment was a podcast book review by Joshua and Matthew. The book was called "A Dog So Small". They did a very good job on this podcast and told about the book without giving the ending away. I left them a comment saying that I enjoyed it and they made me want to read the book to find out what happens.

My 3rd kid blog was Timoteo's Blog. This is hid fifth year blogging. He did not have anything written in this year yet, so I wrote him a comment on how I look forward to reading when he does have post. I also told him that I was amazed this was his fifth year to have a blog considering this is only my first.

Blog Post 6

The Networked Student
This video is about of course a networked student. This means that the student uses technology to learn instead of the old way of textbooks and teacher lectures. In fact the teacher of this class rarely lectures at all. She encourages creativity from the student in finding his/her own way of learning the topics. The student uses a network of learning.
A network of learning includes everything the student uses to learn. For example blogs, podcasts, etc... The student finds all of this on the internet. They can use Google Scholar to find articles from professors around the world on the topic they are learning. They subscribe to blogs to figure out differences of opinions on the topic. The students are embracing the new technology, because it ultimately can teach them more about the topic then the regular textbook can.
So why does the networked student need a teacher? Well, the teacher is there to teach them how to use the network. He/She can give them information to look up to help them understand how the network works. The teacher is there to differentiate between scholarly work or propaganda. The teacher teaches the learning network so his/her students can be better prepared for the future.
A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment
This 7th grader's personal learning environment is similar to mine. She is given the same tools I am to learn. She has the same freedom of surfing the internet that I do. On the other hand hers seems way more organized. She has everything in perfect working order. This is pretty amazing in that she is only in the 7th grade. This tells me that kids today are learning a lot more than when I was in the 7th grade. Another thing is I need to get with the program and learn more about this to teach my students.
Critique of Smartboards
This certain blog explains how smartboards can be effective. You do not need a mouse for the smartboard everything can be done by touching it with a finger or special pen. Educational games can be played on it without the the use of all kinds of transferring cords and computers. There can be downloading of educational movies etc... The blog also talks about how efficient training needs to be done before using the smartboard. In the post about how the smartboard is useless the writers made the argument that everything thing done on the smartboard is just as easy on a regular whiteboard and that is less expensive. The blog that supports the smartboards encourages users of them to be trained and see then if the smartboard is better.http://blog-efl.blogspot.com/2007/08/interactive-whiteboard-white-elephant.html

Blog Post 5

The first resource I read was the 3rd grade podcast. This was a great teaching tool, and I was fascinated by how well the third graders were able to use this technology. They did a podcast on Ancient Rome. They did exceptionally well teaching the subject and talking about it. I learned that my podcast needs to be creative and needs to cover the subject well enough for my readers to learn it.
The next resource was the benefits of podcasting in the classroom. This video described the benefits of using podcasts. Some of them are: a great way to interact with students outside the classroom, promotes creativity and innovation, and parents can see and hear what their kids are doing at school. Watching this I learned that podcasting is very effective and a great teaching tool. Not only does it help the students, but also gets the parents involved. I know now that my podcats can be a great way to teach others the topic of berp back education the topic my group is assigned.
The third and final resource I looked at was The Education Podcast Network. This mainly is used to inform the new teaching and learning styles of the 21st Century. It goes in to detail about how useful podcasting is and how in this new century it should be in the classrooms. And the Judy Scharf Podcast Collection gives information on how to do my podcast. It shows you how to set up a podcast and how to edit it. This also gives the benefits of podcasting in education. I learned from these pages that I need to put adequate time into my project and make it as good as it can be. Again podcasting is a great teaching tool and should be used in an efficient manner.

Blog Post 4

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
Scott McLeod is a very distinguished doctor and widely recognized as one of the nation's leading academic experts on K-12 school technology leadership issues. Dr. Mcleod gave his position on certain things such as blogs that he teaches his students to do. He states sarcastically that we should not teach the students this, because there is to much stuff on the internet that is bad. I agree with his position on that we need to teach the students these things to better help them in the future. The technology is becoming better and better and I believe soon that nothing will be done on pen and paper. So the kids today need to learn about computers and how to use the internet efficiently.
The iSchool Initiative (Mobile Learning)
In this video Travis argues the effectiveness of having a school on the iTouch. He gives great points such as how much money we would save per student. This is about $600. He also shows how everything can be done on the iTouch from textbooks to calculators. He shows how this could have direct impact on student and teacher accountability. This would also help the ecosystem with no paper being used. And can be purchased for only $150.
I believe that this is a great way to do things. This will cut down on the costs for the students and teachers. It will help the environment. The world will become more interactive, and students will get to meet other students from around the world. But if this ever happens I believe it is way down the road, and might not ever happen.
The Lost Generation
My reaction to this video is that we need to reverse the way we look at the world. How today it is more about money than happiness. And work comes before family. It seems like today more people are caught up in their jobs and what not to see what's happening in front of them. This video uses a great technique, at the end of the first speech it says the world will end up this way if we do not reverse it. And then it reverses the same speech to show what will happen if it is change.
Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir
This was a video of 185 people performing "Lux Aurumque". These people have never met and it was done all through the internet. I think this is fascinating that this can be done. I did not know the internet was this powerful and could be used this way. And it is getting better everyday.
Teaching in the 21st Century
Teaching in the 21st Century is a whole new way of teaching. There is so many new and reliable resources out there now. Teachers should make students learn these new resources and use them. This will help them be in the 21st Century and not in a later date. To teach in the 21st Century means to give the students more resources that are at their fingertips. Show them how the world of technology is out their and offers wonderful opportunities.

C4T Project

I was assigned the blog Reflections on Teaching 2.0 by Mr. C. The first post I commented on was a video of a Saturday Night Live clip that was titled "What Was That". This clip pointed out the concerns that kids today do not know what is going on in the world. My comments stated that this is a big concern and that SNL is actually relevant again and poses a good question.
The next post was one that he wrote at the beginning of the school year. He had to joint teach a class which was harder than it seemed, because there was no planning time with the other teacher. He also had some other minor problems that comes with every new school year. My comments consisted of telling him that I hoped everything worked out and that it was a good first semester and the one to come is even better.

Blog Post 3

A Vision of Students Today
This video focuses on the concerns students have today. It shows the every day life of a student. How some students pay for college, but never go to class and are wasting their money. How some students that sit in class are not paying attention and are wasting their money as well. How the every day student today is not making the most out of their time in college. This will lead to them being their a lot longer than they imagined.
Also the video goes to show that a student does various things that add up to about 26 hours of work a day. There is only 24 hours in a day. There are so many more technological things today that we are given that was not given in the past. And we need to know how ti use them to better help ourselves in the world today.
Its Not About the Technology
Mrs. Hines post is one that states that it is not about the technology. Everyone says that we need to be technologically advanced for the future. But Mrs. Hines states that this is true in some ways, but it is not everything. She goes on to give a list of four things that a teacher must recognize to impact the students in today's generation of learning.
The first is teachers must be learners. Every teacher has had a different experience and should listen to other teachers to learn theirs. This will better help the teacher be better invested in their profession. The next is teaching and learning are not the same thing. Mrs. Hines say that teaching today is about working smarter not harder. Next is that technology is wasted without good teaching. She says that a teacher must be innovative or money is wasted. Last is be a 21st Century teacher without the technology. A teacher must prepare the students to be creative and innovative, and the students will be prepared for the future.
Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
Karl Fisch in this post says that it is not okay to be technologically illiterate for a teacher. That a teacher that is technologically illiterate is jeopardizing our students today. The technology of today is a wonderful thing and teachers should know how to use it to prepare the students for the future. No, teachers do not have to know everything, but a basic technological brain is necessary.
The teachers of today need to be willing to learn these new technologies. The world is becoming more technological as we speak and sooner or later that will be all there is, computers. Mr. Fisch says that a technological illiterate teacher today is equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago that could not read and write. This is true, because everything today is going away from the traditional pen and paper.
Gary Hayes Social Media Count
These changes are astounding. As a future teacher this means that I have to be technologically literate in order to stay up to date with my students. This will better help me understand them and get to know them. The world is changing and pretty soon everything will be done electronically. And as a future teacher i need to know how to do these things.

Did You Know?
This video was extraordinary. It has so much information that i did not know about. How in five minutes of me watching the video there were sixty seven babies born in the United States, and even more than that in China and India. That was just in the time that the video was going. Which leads to the question is the world over populated? After watching the video I will view the world a whole lot differently. It shows how much the whole world is changing everyday.
Also in the video it shows how much the technology world is changing. Like for instance, how when a student starts college by the third year the stuff he or she learned in the first will be outdated. That's amazing. A person can learn something new everyday. And this video proves that. And in conclusion everyone should keep up with the times and how they are changing to stay updated in the world.

Mr. Winkle Wakes
This video is about a man named Mr. Winkle who wakes up after a hundred years to find the world has changed. Business people can talk to each other around the world on a computer. How the hospital had machines keeping people alive. But when he went to the school nothing has changed. The teacher still teaches and the students still take notes.
After watching the video I noticed that the world has changed and is still changing rapidly. Everything will continue to change as the world of technology grows. The thing that was kind of disturbing is that education has not changed. This means that as technology changes the schools are not. This is not a good thing. The schools should get up to date and teach to the updating technology. This will better help the students in the "real world".
The Importance Of Creativity
This is about Sir Ken Robinson and expert on creativity. He wants to create an education that nurtures with creativity rather than undermining it. He states the unpredictable world is changing everyday. And how kids that are being educated today for the world ahead and nobody knows what the world will look like or be like in five years. So how is this possible? He wants for education to change with the world and as of right now its not.
This is important because education is still teaching the same thing it started out teaching. Of course students need the basics of reading and writing and how to solve problems. But on the other hand students need to learn about the changing world. For instance students need to learn today about your computers and how relevant they are to the world today. This is something that was not taught a while ago. This just shows that education needs to be updated with the technology.
Laura's Blog Post
The great thing about this article and video is how we need to change education with the times. How everyone is creative and that education should encourage creativity rather than ignoring it. Also that the United States is way behind in the education factor and this should reveal a problem to the educators. And to ensure that the Cecilia Gault's  have as good as an education as this Cecilia Gault is to encourage creativity. Let the students be creative and show them that it is alright to think outside the box.
 Harness Your Students' Digital Thoughts
This video is of a small town teacher Viki Barnes. She uses technology such as podcasts and blogs to connect her students to the world. Her blog won the best education teacher blog of the year. Her purpose is to show the students the rest of the world through the computer. She teaches this because she believes that this is important in the world today of the changing technology. She allows her students to teach her this is important because she knows she does not know everything about certain things and the students when finding out certain things can teach her what they found.
This is a great video in that it shows how one teacher can do a whole lot when embracing the changing world and teaching it to her students. Once again the world is changing rapidly and in order to keep up we have to learn the new technologies. And to do this we have to open our eyes and not shut the new technology out. This good that Ms. Barnes is doing this and other teachers should join in.

About Me

Hi, my name is Brent LaForce. I am twenty one years and I am pursuing an education degree in physical education. I have recently just transferred from the University of West Alabama where I attended one semester of class. I was on the football team there and i decided to come home, because it was just to far away from this place. Before West Alabama i attended Faulkner State Community College where I earned my Associates Degree in Science. At Faulkner I played baseball for two years there. Now I have given up the sports and am just trying to finish up school.
After finishing my physical education degree I plan on teaching on the high school level. This is because I am aspiring to be a football coach. This has been my dream ever since I can remember. I have always loved playing the sport and could never see me ever being away from the sport. so in being a coach I want to teach the players what I was taught. Football has taught so much about playing the game but also about life. And this is what I want to pass on to future players.
